Troubleshooting: Modem Test Problems

Problem

Possible Causes

Possible Solutions

Modem test will not run or locks up machine.

Other programs that use the modem or communication ports are running (e.g., WinFax, AOL, etc.).

Reboot the computer, close all open software (including minimized software running in the system tray), and try again.

 

Bad or missing Windows TAPI DLL files. These are files located in your Windows\System folder.

Reinstall Windows.

 

Device or resource conflicts.
